High Commissioner of India visits ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ
The High Commissioner of India to the UK, Mr Vikram Doraiswami has visited the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ
Along with colleagues, he made the journey from London to speak with leading executives and academics, and meet students, as well as touring some of the University’s outstanding research and teaching facilities.
The rare visit reflects strengthening ties between Plymouth and India, through the shared pursuit of excellence in higher education.
The ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ has operated in India for nearly 20 years. As a well-established brand in the South Asia region, it has colleagues based in New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai.
Almost 300 students from India study at Plymouth – with around half of them studying in the Faculty of Health – and the University employs 70 academics of Indian origin.

We are proud of our growing links with India and were delighted to welcome the High Commissioner and his team to our campus.

Their visit reflects the fact that, in addition to being the South West peninsula’s university of choice, Plymouth is increasing its focus on being a global-civic institution, with important partnerships across the planet.
Many of our collaborations with India focus on our Faculty of Science and Engineering and Plymouth Business School, but these vital connections extend to all aspects of our University’s curriculum and research portfolio.

Vice-Chancellor

The ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ has relationships with many higher education institutions in India, including 10 live articulation/progression agreements, 11 memorandums of understanding and one study abroad/exchange programme.
A further six agreements are being developed, currently, as the ties between Plymouth and India grow stronger.

It was a pleasure to visit the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ earlier this week. I am grateful to Vice Chancellor Prof. Richard Davies and his colleagues for giving me such a wonderful opportunity to learn of the cutting edge work that this University is doing in very important areas of marine science; in new and renewable energy; in the wider field of defence and security sciences; and in designing innovative, community-centric and integrated health care training. The longstanding connection with India, and the University's strong focus on transnational education programmes were a revelation. I look forward to working with the University to strengthen ties with Indian research institutions in these and other areas of mutual interest and competence.
