Overview

Our clinician led medical research brings together researchers and clinicians from academia, medical research charities, NHS Trusts, industry and patients to develop and evaluate novel treatments through single and multi-centre Phase 2 & 3 clinical trials.

Facilitated by a strong collaborative, translational approach our research focuses on addressing unmet patient needs and complex challenges in clinical medicine in the areas of cancer, clinical neuroscience and liver disease.

This research is enabled by our close working relationship with neighbouring , one of Europe’s largest hospitals with an excellent track record for patient recruitment into clinical trials, and supported by the ��Ƶ’s UKCRC registered Peninsula Clinical Trials Unit (PenCTU) and our Medical Statistics teams.

Our research

Blood cancer ( Dr Claire Hutchinson ) – laboratory research and clinical studies / trials into Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, focus on Mantle Cell Lymphoma, novel therapeutics, immunotherapy and diagnostics.

Hepatology ( Professor Matthew Cramp , Dr David Sheridan , Dr Ashwin Dhanda ) – laboratory research and clinical studies / trials into liver disease, focus on hepatitis C, alcoholic and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease / steatohepatitis and liver cancer.

Parkinson’s and neurodegenerative disease ( Professor Camille Carroll ) – clinical treatment and management, development and testing of new treatments / management tools, clinical trials and drug repurposing.

Brain tumours ( Professor Oliver Hanemann ) – Centre of Excellence for laboratory research and clinical studies into low grade brain tumours, development of new treatments and diagnostics.

Multiple sclerosis / patient outcome scales ( Professor Jeremy Hobart ) – clinical studies / trials into the assessment and treatment of MS and the design, testing and validation of patient outcome scales for clinical application.
