Research funding opportunities

The BA/Leverhulme Small Research Grants are available to support primary research in the humanities and social sciences. These awards, up to £10,000 in value and tenable for up to 24 months, are provided to cover the cost of the expenses arising from a defined research project.

PIPP aims to equip research nurses and midwives with the necessary theoretical knowledge, leadership skills and practical experience to become a principal investigator responsible for conducting research at a site.

ENRICH brings together care home staff, residents and their families with researchers. It provides a toolkit of resources to help care homes make the most of research; and researchers to set up and run studies effectively and collaboratively in care homes.

This programme of fellowship schemes and short placement awards supports individuals based within local authority settings to develop as health and/or social care researchers whilst retaining their existing employment and salary. This new initiative provides exciting opportunities for a wide range of individuals.

AHP writing sessions

Our objective is simple yet powerful: to create an environment free from distractions where you can devote your undivided attention to writing. These sessions will cultivate focus and offer brief intervals for a break. Whether you are an experienced researcher or just starting your research career, we invite all Allied Health Professionals within the South West to join us.

CAHPR launch the Directory of Professors

AHP Professors are often hidden within academic institutions so CAHPR are showcasing the UK's AHP Professors in a new directory.

Allied Health Professions (AHP) Professors are the key leaders and influences to help promote and advance AHP research and AHP research capacity, but they can be hidden within academic institutions.

As AHP researchers, we should showcase our Professor community. The Community for Allied Health Professions Research (CAHPR) are bringing together a new Directory of AHP Professors to facilitate networking, knowledge exchange, collaboration, and enhanced visibility. This directory will be hosted on the CAHPR website.

If you’re an Allied Health Professional and a UK-based full Professor, we invite you to join this directory. You can find out more and (sorry, we’re excluding visiting, associate and assistant professors).

We also seek to establish a snapshot of how diverse our community of AHP Professors is. Please complete the (this data is anonymous).

This project aims to support the South West Developing a Research Skilled Workforce strategy 2023–2026, specifically the strategic aim to improve access and equity.

Phase 1

The recent project aimed to explore how AHPs and AHP support workers in the South West felt under-recognised and what the barriers and enablers were for these groups in research career progression.

190 AHPs expressed an interest in the project and 66 AHPs and AHP support workers participated.
All 15 Allied Health Professions from all seven integrated care systems of the South West and a range of career stages and health and care settings are represented in the project.

Phase 2

Only 4.5% of participants in Phase 1 were from a Global Majority or Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic background. The research team are commencing Phase 2 of the research project which offers virtual conversations to AHPs and AHP support workers across the South West who are from a Global Majority or Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic background to hear their stories of developing their research skills or navigating research careers. We welcome your support to share this opportunity with colleagues who may be interested to get involved and share their experience with us.
