About Ashita

Ashita Gupta is anÌýArchitect-turned-Urban Designer, currently anÌýAssociate LecturerÌýand aÌýDoctoral ResearcherÌý(FoAHB fundedÌýCollaborative Doctoral Award) at the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓÆµ. She is also aÌýLocal Pathways FellowÌýin the 2025 cohort of theÌýUN SDSN-Youth Initiative’s Local Pathways Fellowship, working on localising the SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) in urban contexts. Ashita has worked at the intersection of academia and industry on multidisciplinary projects across architecture, urban design and planning inÌýIndiaÌýand theÌýUKÌýfor over four years. Specialising inÌýparticipatory urbanism, gender-sensitive placemaking, and co-design, her work integrates research and practice for developing participatory urban solutions that promoteÌýspatial justice, resilience, and sustainability.

Recently, she has been exploringÌýliving lab methodologiesÌýthrough aÌýdigital placemakingÌýlens forÌýco-creating digital solutionsÌýwithÌýyoung peopleÌýandÌýmarginalised communitiesÌýthat can enhanceÌýgreen and blue space governanceÌýin Plymouth, UK. She has worked extensively withÌýlocal stakeholdersÌýin collaboration withÌýcivic organisations in the city including the Plymouth City Council, the Plymouth Sound National Marine ParkÌýand various others through projects such as -ÌýEU/ERDF Urban Innovative ActionsÌýfunded action research under theÌýGreen Minds: Living LabÌý& more recently theÌýAHRC Design Exchange PartnershipÌýfundedÌýDigital Seascapes Project (2023 cohort) & Make Space for BEES Project (2024 Cohort). She has also recently been involved withÌýDigital Together projectÌýfor developing community hubs to embed digital skills and access across Cornwall, UK, for supporting collective health and wellbeing. In 2021, Ashita also received the Urban DesignÌý‘Victoria Henshaw Prize for Contributions to City Liveability’ from The University of SheffieldÌý for her research on formulatingÌýframeworks for assessing gender responseÌýin urban public spaces and enhancing inclusivity in the public realm.Ìý
