About Sarah

I joined BP Tanker Co Ltd (later BP Shipping Ltd) as a deck cadet in 1974. I worked as a deck officer for 12 years first on BP Shipping and then with FT Everard & Sons Ltd, a coastal shipping company. I left the sea after I had gained my Master Mariners Certificate of Competency.

This was followed by a period of home responsibilities, during which time I served with the Royal Naval Reserve (RNR) in the Naval Control of Shipping Branch.

From 1996-1998 I studied as an undergraduate at Plymouth University. On graduation I was appointed as a lecturer in maritime business at the University. I was Programme Leader for the International Foundation Programme (which became the English Language Centre) from its inception in 1998 to 2003. I was awarded my doctorate in 2007.

From 2013 to 2018 I was the Undergraduate Programme Leader for the BSc (Hons) Maritime Business and Maritime Law and BSc (Hons) Maritime Business and Logistics programmes. From 2020, I have been the Programme Leader for the BSc (Hons) Maritime Business.
